On this day, each US household will spend an average of 188 dollars and 81 cents. The National Retail Federation (NRF) has released its estimate of the Valentine’s Day economy this year. The information was also published on the US Chamber of Commerce website.

Let’s get an idea of ​​how much Americans spend on Valentine’s Day. The estimated cost of Valentine’s Day this year is equivalent to 42 percent of Bangladesh’s budget for the current fiscal year. Bangladesh’s budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year is Tk 797,000 crore.

Giving gifts to loved ones, including lovers and relatives, on Valentine’s Day has now become a tradition. In the Western world, it has become a festival. Flowers, jewelry, and chocolates are the most popular gifts on Valentine’s Day. However, many people also give expensive gifts like cars to their loved ones. They also spend a lot of money on expensive hotels, food, and traveling. As a result, the market for love gifts is booming, and the economy also gets a boost.

Tomorrow, Friday, is World Valentine’s Day. There has been a lot of excitement about it in the Western world. Valentine’s Day has been popular in Bangladesh since the 1990s. The Society of American Florists said that florists are preparing 250 million flowers for Valentine’s Day this year. Sweets such as chocolate and candy are very popular as Valentine’s Day gifts in the United States. This year, 56 percent of Americans plan to buy candy.

According to a 2025 study by US market research firm WalletHubs, six million Americans are likely to propose on Valentine’s Day this year. 36 percent of Americans think proposing on Valentine’s Day is romantic.

On Valentine’s Day, Americans not only give gifts to their loved ones, but also to their beloved pets like dogs and cats. According to a report by Capital One Shopping in the United States, last year, Americans spent $1.5 billion on gifts for pets on Valentine’s Day, which is about 18,500 crore taka in Bangladeshi currency. A dog received an average gift of $31.24. And a pet cat received a gift of $27.42.

Restaurant business is also quite busy on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. Many people go to restaurants to eat with their loved ones. However, like last time, Valentine’s Day falls on a working day of the week (Friday). As a result, it is expected that ‘take-out’ sales at restaurants will be higher. Last time, ‘take-out’ sales increased by 46 percent on Valentine’s Day.
