BMW has launched the all-new iX3 Neue Klasse electric car. The SUV made its global debut at the Munich Motor Show on September 5, 2025. It is the first production model built on BMW’s next-generation EV platform.
The iX3 is expected to reach Europe in spring 2026, followed by a U.S. release in the summer. It is seen as one of the most important BMW cars in decades, marking a full shift to dedicated electric platforms.
BMW iX3 Specs, Range, and Charging
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive is the first model in the lineup. It uses two in-house electric motors and a 108.7kWh battery. BMW claims a WLTP range between 421 and 500 miles, depending on trim.
Power output stands at around 469 horsepower with 473 lb-ft of torque. The SUV can sprint from 0–60 mph in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 130 mph.
The Neue Klasse platform introduces 800-volt architecture. This allows 400kW charging speeds on DC fast chargers. In practice, the iX3 can gain up to 230 miles of range in just 10 minutes. BMW says this places it among the fastest-charging EVs on the market.
The iX3 also supports bi-directional charging, letting owners power external devices. For North America, the car will use Tesla’s NACS charging standard, with a CCS adapter included.
Design, Interior, and New Infotainment
The iX3 carries a fresh but familiar BMW design. It has slim kidney grilles, quad headlights, and a sharper rear profile. The SUV measures slightly longer than the current X3 but keeps a mid-size footprint.
Inside, the cabin is fully redesigned. A panoramic display stretches under the windshield for speed and navigation. A hexagonal touchscreen runs the new Operating System X. BMW has removed the classic iDrive knob in favor of a digital-first layout.
The SUV is also BMW’s first software-defined vehicle. Four “superbrains” control power, driving dynamics, safety, and infotainment. One unit, called the “Heart of Joy,” integrates steering, braking, and power for smoother performance.
Why the Neue Klasse iX3 Matters
The Neue Klasse platform is a turning point for BMW. The company confirmed that the same tech will appear in 40 new models and updates by 2027.
BMW’s goal is to cut weight, boost efficiency, and improve costs. Its new motors are 40 percent more efficient and 20 percent cheaper to build. The battery cells are 20 percent more energy-dense than current designs.
According to Reuters, BMW plans to build the iX3 in Hungary, with U.S. production beginning in early 2026. This rollout shows BMW’s focus on securing a strong EV future while still keeping its performance DNA.
The BMW iX3 Neue Klasse electric car is more than a new model. It signals a new era for the German automaker. With long range, fast charging, and advanced software, the iX3 could be one of the most significant EV launches of the decade.
