The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has offered to buy OpenAI at a hefty price. In response, the company’s co-founder and CEO of ChatGPT, Sam Altman, said, “We are not for sale.” Altman participated in the ‘AI Action Summit’ in Paris, France, on Tuesday. In an interview given on stage, Altman said, ‘We are not like other organizations, our goal is to create AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) in such a way that the whole of humanity can benefit from it, and that is what we are here to do.’
Asked to define AGI, Altman said, “Most people are used to it, in a way, strong AI systems are really strong.”
A group of investors led by Elon Musk recently made a bid to buy OpenAI. They have offered the regulator to buy the technology company for $97.4 billion.
Musk’s lawyer, Mark Toberoff, confirmed the news, saying he submitted a bid to the regulator to buy OpenAI last Monday. Musk was one of the people who helped bring OpenAI to life. He was also a co-founder of the company alongside Altman. Musk later left OpenAI.
Earlier, in response to Musk’s offer to buy OpenAI, Altman wrote in a post on Musk’s own social media platform X (formerly Twitter), “No, thank you. But if you want, we can buy Twitter (which Elon Musk renamed X after buying Twitter) for $9.74 billion.”
