Gmail fraud using artificial intelligence (AI) technology is increasing day by day. Recently, a group of hackers has been taking control of users’ Gmail accounts by making fake phone calls in the name of Google through AI technology. Cyber security experts have already warned all Gmail users to stay safe from such cyber attacks.
According to cybersecurity experts, to fool Gmail users, hackers first contact specific individuals through automated (robocall) phone calls. The phone calls inform that suspicious activity has been detected in your Gmail account.
Then, they warn that an e-mail will be sent soon to resolve the problem and provide instructions to recover the account. However, when you click on the link in the e-mail, another website modeled after Google’s official website opens. Once you enter the Gmail account password, the hackers take full control of the account.
Cyber security firm Malwarebytes said that hackers are currently using cutting-edge AI technology at low cost. Through AI technology, hackers are easily collecting recovery codes as well as passwords of Gmail accounts by fooling users. In such cyber attacks, bank accounts, social media, cloud storage and other important service accounts linked to Gmail accounts also come under the control of hackers.
Cyber security experts have advised Gmail users to be vigilant to stay safe online. According to them, they should refrain from clicking on links in e-mails or SMS messages sent by unknown individuals or organizations and should not download any files. In addition, before providing personal information to any website, one should ensure its acceptability. If they receive a phone call from fraudsters, one should also refrain from clicking on any buttons on the smartphone as instructed.
