Anguilla has officially been crowned the safest island in the Caribbean for 2025. The British overseas territory earned the top spot in a new World Population Review ranking that evaluated crime rates, political stability, and policing across the region.

The report found that Anguilla boasts the lowest crime rates in the Caribbean, describing it as a peaceful, low-risk destination where visitors can “feel safe and at ease.” The U.S. Department of State also lists Anguilla at Level 1 — the lowest travel advisory category — recommending only standard precautions.

What Makes Anguilla the Safest Caribbean Island

Experts point to several reasons behind Anguilla’s leading safety record. Its small size, isolation, and limited access points help curb cross-border crime. John Rose, chief risk adviser for Altour, told Fox News Digital that the island’s “controlled, boutique tourism environment” contributes to its safety reputation.

Drug-related offenses are minimal and rarely impact tourists, according to the World Population Review. The Anguilla Tourist Board celebrated the recognition on social media, stating, “Here, peace isn’t found, it’s felt. From 33 beaches to the warmth of our community, safety is simply part of island life.”

Following Anguilla on the list were Barbados, St. Barts, Martinique, the Cayman Islands, and Aruba. The recognition further solidifies Anguilla’s appeal as both a luxury and secure travel destination.

Traveler Experience: Serenity, Simplicity, and Security

Anguilla has long attracted travelers seeking privacy, tranquility, and authentic Caribbean charm. The island has no cruise ship terminals, high-rises, or bustling shopping districts — just quiet beaches, turquoise waters, and world-class dining.

Atlanta-based travel adviser Erin Schroeder told Fox News that Anguilla’s safety reputation is a major draw. “Safety in the Caribbean is a top deciding factor for travelers,” she said. “I love that I can walk along the beach at night to restaurants or exercise freely — it’s that safe.”

However, Anguilla’s exclusivity comes with challenges. There is only one direct U.S. flight, and many visitors must travel through St. Maarten and then take a ferry — costing around $115 per person each way. Despite this, luxury travelers continue to flock to Anguilla for its unmatched serenity.

Award-Winning Destination with Global Recognition

In addition to topping the 2025 safety rankings, Anguilla was named one of the world’s best islands by Travel + Leisure, receiving praise for its hospitality, culinary scene, and luxury accommodations. Encyclopedia Britannica also highlights the island for its “easy-going atmosphere and magnificent beaches.”

Experts recommend travelers maintain general precautions while visiting any destination, including reviewing advisories, using licensed transportation, and keeping valuables discreet. As Rose explained, “Safety is dynamic, not static. The best travelers prepare, monitor, and stay aware — that’s how you travel smart, not scared.”

Anguilla’s peaceful beaches, welcoming locals, and strong governance continue to make it the Caribbean’s safest and most rewarding escape for global travelers.
