ARAI cylinder testing facility earns NABL accreditation

By Tarek HasanSeptember 14, 20262 Mins Read

ARAI’s cylinder testing facility at Takwe in Pune has received NABL accreditation for high-pressure gaseous cylinder testing. The result places laboratory competence and measurement quality at the centre of the announcement. It is a testing capability update, not a claim that every cylinder or vehicle component has passed the same test.

Autocar Professional reports that the facility has been accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 through the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories. That standard is used to assess whether a laboratory can perform defined tests with controlled methods, equipment and records.

The accreditation matters because gaseous cylinders are used in transport and energy systems where pressure testing is a basic safety step. A recognised laboratory framework can give manufacturers and suppliers a clearer route for checking materials and designs against the applicable test scope.

For engineers, the useful part is the difference between a test result and a general product claim. A laboratory can report what it measured under stated conditions. That record can then support a certification, supplier review or development decision when the test is relevant to the product being assessed.

ARAI’s facility is part of a wider vehicle-technology ecosystem that includes alternative fuels, storage systems and components made for demanding operating conditions. Better testing capacity can reduce the need to send every evaluation to a distant facility, although the benefit depends on capacity and the exact scope of accreditation.

The accreditation does not remove the need for design checks, manufacturing controls, inspection or safe handling. It also does not prove that every cylinder type is covered. Manufacturers still need to confirm the approved methods, pressure range and documentation required for their own application.

The confirmed takeaway is that the ARAI cylinder testing facility accreditation gives the Takwe site a recognised testing credential for high-pressure gaseous cylinders. That is a technical infrastructure story behind cleaner transport and industrial equipment, with its value measured through reliable test work rather than a new vehicle launch or an unverified performance promise.
