Assam swimmers secure 12 medals at Janajatiya Khel Mahotsav

SPORTS DESK: The 1st Janajatiya Khel Mahotsav, a sporting extravaganza celebrating indigenous sports, witnessed the exceptional performance of Assam’s swimming team at the KIIS Swimming Pool Complex in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Competing in the senior men/women section, the swimmers from Assam secured 12 medals including 4 gold, 4 silver and another 4 bronze in various events.

Violina Krow emerged as a standout performer, clinching two gold medals. In the women’s 50m Breaststroke event, she displayed her dominance, finishing with a remarkable timing of 43.15 seconds. Additionally, Krow showcased her prowess in the Women’s 50m Freestyle event, securing another gold medal with a timing of 32.52 seconds. She added to her impressive medal tally with two more bronze medals. Krow secured a bronze in the women’s 50m Butterfly event with a timing of 39.54 seconds and another bronze in the women’s 100m Butterfly event with a timing of 1 minute and 46.92 seconds.

Another notable achievement came from Evon Taye in the men’s 50m Freestyle event. Taye completed the race in just 25.87 seconds, securing a gold medal.

The team’s success extended to the relay events as well, with the Assam Boys’ 4x50m Freestyle Relay team claiming the gold medal. The team, consisting of Sarmen Terang, Siddharth Deori, Evon Taye, and Firmino Emon Lalung, showcased exceptional coordination and skill, completing the race in 1 minute and 49.77 seconds.

Siddharth Deori displayed his versatility, claiming silver medals in the men’s 50m Butterfly event with a timing of 28.59 seconds and the men’s 50m Backstroke event with a timing of 31.94 seconds. Firmino Emon Lalung secured a silver medal in the men’s 50m Freestyle event with a timing of 26.9 seconds, as well as a bronze medal in the men’s 50m Butterfly event with a timing of 29.17 seconds.

Anjeleena Sonowal also contributed to the team’s success by securing a bronze medal in the women’s 50m Backstroke event with a timing of 43.3 seconds. (TNM)
