The teaser for Awarapan 2 dropped on August 14. It stars Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi. Vishesh Bhatt produces the film under the Vishesh Films banner.

Nitin Kakkar directs the sequel to the 2007 thriller Awarapan. Vishesh Films first announced the project in March 2025. Hashmi confirmed he would reprise his original role. He has said the screenplay went through multiple revisions over nearly two years before it was finalized.

Pre-production began in April 2025. Principal photography started that September and wrapped in June 2026. The shoot was not without trouble. Hashmi suffered an abdominal injury while filming an action sequence in Rajasthan and underwent surgery. He returned to set sooner than doctors expected, working under a closely monitored schedule.

Leaked photos from the Rajasthan set, showing Hashmi’s and Patani’s looks, spread online months before the teaser dropped. That leak had already built anticipation for the film ahead of its first official footage.

The 2007 original starred Hashmi alongside Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma and Ashutosh Rana. Mohit Suri directed it, and Mukesh Bhatt produced under the Vishesh Films banner. Story credit went to Honey Irani and Mahesh Bhatt. Awarapan drew on elements of the South Korean film A Bittersweet Life, though it went uncredited as an adaptation. Critics responded well at the time. The film still underperformed at the box office, before building its cult reputation in the years since, driven largely by its soundtrack and Hashmi’s performance.

Awarapan, the 2007 original, built a lasting cult following for its music and for Hashmi’s performance as a man trapped between love and violence. A sequel had been rumored on and off for years. Its confirmation, and now the teaser, suggests Vishesh Films is betting on nostalgia to pull audiences back into theaters.

No release date has been announced yet. The studio has not said when the full trailer will follow the teaser.
