Amazon Web Services is making its biggest push yet into agentic AI. The cloud giant’s flagship conference, AWS re:Invent 2025, is underway in Las Vegas. New announcements center on AI that can work independently for users.

AWS re:Invent 2025 AI agents

CEO Matt Garman set the tone in his opening keynote. He stated AI agents represent the next major shift, moving beyond simple assistants. This shift is where businesses will start seeing real financial returns from their AI investments.

Frontier Agents and New Tools Take Center Stage

A major reveal was a trio of new “Frontier” AI agents. One, named Kiro, is an autonomous coding agent. It learns a development team’s patterns and can then operate solo for hours or even days.

Another Frontier agent focuses on security code reviews. The third handles DevOps tasks to prevent service incidents. AWS clearly sees autonomous task completion as the future. According to TechCrunch coverage, previews of these agents are available now.

The company also expanded its AgentCore platform. New “Policy” features let developers set hard boundaries for agent actions. Agents can now also log and remember user preferences over time.

Behind the Hype: Chips, Savings, and Real-World Impact

Beyond the agent buzz, AWS unveiled significant infrastructure news. It introduced its next-generation AI training chip, Trainium3. The company claims it offers four times the performance while using less power.

In a customer-focused move, AWS launched Database Savings Plans. These commitments can cut related costs by up to 35 percent. This addresses long-standing feedback from cloud economists about complex pricing.

Real-world evidence came from clients like Lyft. The ride-hail company shared that its AI agent, built on Amazon Bedrock, cut resolution times by 87 percent. Driver usage of the agent also jumped 70 percent this year.

The overarching message from AWS re:Invent 2025 is clear: the era of conversational AI is evolving into the age of actionable, autonomous agents. This strategic pivot could redefine how enterprises automate complex workflows and manage costs in the cloud.
