A new wave of Bangladesh unrest grew on Saturday after a young girl died in a house fire blamed on violent protesters. The fire broke out in Lakshmipur at the home of local BNP leader Belal Hossain. The attack came as tensions rose across the country after the death of radical student leader Sharif Osman Hadi in Singapore.

Bangladesh unrestPolice said the house was locked from the outside before it was set on fire. The BNP leader and his three daughters were trapped inside. The youngest child, seven-year-old Ayesha Akter, died at the scene.

Bangladesh Unrest Drives Rising Fear Across Cities

Hadi’s death late Thursday set off large protests in Dhaka and other major districts. According to Reuters, crowds vandalised media offices and attacked historic sites. Fires were reported at the buildings of The Daily Star and Prothom Alo. The Dhanmondi 32 residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was also targeted.

The unrest quickly spread to other regions. Police confirmed several violent clashes, including an attack on India’s assistant high commission in Chittagong. Protests also emerged near Indian missions in Dhaka, Khulna, and Rajshahi.

The Lakshmipur fire added a tragic layer to the fast-moving crisis. Local officials said Hossain was badly burned and was taken to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. His two injured daughters were moved to Dhaka for advanced care.

The BNP condemned the attack. Party leaders said the incident showed a deep failure in law and order. They warned that political tensions are now at their highest level in months.

Impact of the Violence on Daily Life in Bangladesh

The unrest has disrupted daily life across several districts. Roads were blocked, shops were closed, and public transport faced long delays. Many families stayed inside as new reports of clashes reached national media outlets.

Police also confirmed a separate killing in Mymensingh. A Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, was beaten by a mob and later set on fire. Authorities called the act brutal and said it was linked to rising tension and anger following Hadi’s death.

Hadi had been shot on December 12 by unknown gunmen. He was moved out of the country for treatment but died six days later. His funeral took place on Saturday under tight security. Bangladesh’s interim Chief Adviser Mohammed Yunus declared a day of national mourning.

Officials warned that more unrest could follow. Security forces remain deployed across Dhaka and several other cities. Leaders urged the public to stay calm as investigations into each incident continue.

The Bangladesh unrest has now widened into a national crisis. Many fear more violence if tensions are not brought under control soon. The next few days will be key as the country waits for stability.
