Bengaluru Metro harassment

The woman’s video account of the ordeal went viral online. She detailed how the man, reportedly intoxicated, touched her inappropriately. Bengaluru police have now launched an investigation into the serious allegations.

Woman’s Courageous Confrontation Captured in Viral Statement

According to NDTV, the woman was travelling home from work. She described sitting between two passengers before a man took the seat beside her. She felt him sitting uncomfortably close from the start.

She initially tried to adjust her position. Then she felt a hand pressing against her body. After it happened again, she realized the contact was intentional.

“I froze inside,” she said in the video. She decided to act as her station approached. She feared he would harass others if she stayed silent.

She stood up and slapped the man firmly. He got off at the same station, where she slapped him again. The woman stated he was crying and begging but also smiling in denial.

Police Investigation Underway Following Formal Complaint

Metro security personnel intervened and took both individuals to an office. The woman insisted on filing a formal police complaint. She later lodged it at the Upparpet Police Station.

Police told IANS the incident happened around 7 p.m. on December 23. A non-cognisable report was registered for indecent behaviour and sexual harassment. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the train and station as part of their probe.

The accused has been identified as 46-year-old Mutappa. Preliminary reports suggest he was intoxicated during the incident. The case highlights ongoing concerns about women’s safety in public transport.

This Bengaluru Metro harassment case has ignited a crucial conversation. It underscores the urgent need for safe transit spaces. The police investigation’s findings will be closely watched by the public.
