Bhutan’s 8th Royal Flower Exhibition to be held in May

INTERNATIONAL DESK: Good news for flower lovers! The eighth edition of the Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition will be held in Thimphu, from May 2 to 6 2023, stated The Tourism Council Of Bhutan.

This popular annual event provides a platform for local gardeners, artisans and entrepreneurs to display their plants and floral creations. Traditional crafts and installations are showcased at the festival along with a huge mural painted by artists from VAST Bhutan (Voluntary Artists Studio, Thimphu ). A vast range of medicinal plants and herbs from the Himalayas are exhibited by Bhutan’s Institute of Traditional Medicine. Bhutan is known for its rare flora with great medicinal properties. This flower exhibition has been witnessing a great number of tourists since its inception and it is going to be the first exhibition since the opening of the border after the pandemic.

The “Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition” is run in partnership with the local community that helps beautify towns through permanent gardens and art pieces. It aims to support floriculture and gardening-related business, as well as provide vibrant spaces for the community.

The “Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition” gives artistic expression to our rich environmental and cultural heritage, promoting the cause of environmentalism, as well as art, community and culture,” said Dorji Dhradhul, the director general of the Department of Tourism of Bhutan. The main venues for the “Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition” are located in Clock Tower Square and Norzin Lam, the main avenue of Thimphu, with gardens dotted across the city.

The Tourism Council of Bhutan is responsible for the development and promotion of sustainable tourism in the country. Guided by the principles of ‘high value and low volume tourism ‘, It has been constantly working to share the places, experiences and people of Bhutan with conscious travellers for years. It is to be reminded that tourists coming to Bhutan are charged a tourism tax ‘sustainable fee’. Indian tourists are required to pay Rs 1,200 per night, while travellers from other countries are required to shell out $65 .

Recently, the council announced that Indian tourists who pay a sustainable fee will be able to buy duty free gold at Thimphu and Phuentsholing.(TBL)
