Buffalo Bills Week 9 Inactives vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Key Starters Out for AFC Clash

The Buffalo Bills have officially released their Week 9 inactive list ahead of their crucial matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The game, which carries major AFC playoff implications, will see the Bills missing several key starters due to injury.

Buffalo entered the contest already short-handed, with three players ruled out earlier in the week. Now, as kickoff approaches, the team’s full inactive list reveals even deeper roster challenges, especially on the defensive front.

Buffalo Bills Inactive List for Week 9

The biggest loss for Buffalo remains defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who tore his bicep in last week’s win over the Carolina Panthers. He’s now on injured reserve and won’t appear on the active roster again this season. In his absence, the Bills have elevated veterans and practice-squad reinforcements to fill key defensive roles.

WR Joshua Palmer is sidelined again with knee and ankle injuries suffered against the Atlanta Falcons. That leaves the Bills with five active wide receivers — Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, Elijah Moore, and Tyrell Shavers.

OT Chase Lundt will be a healthy scratch as the rookie continues to develop behind a fully healthy offensive line.

EDGE Landon Jackson is also inactive as veteran Michael Hoecht’s return pushes him out of the rotation. Buffalo will lean on Joey Bosa, Greg Rousseau, A.J. Epenesa, and Javon Solomon for edge-rushing duties.

DT DaQuan Jones remains out due to a lingering calf injury sustained in pregame warmups two weeks ago. To bolster the defensive line, the Bills signed Jordan Phillips to the 53-man roster and promoted Phidarian Mathis from the practice squad. Deone Walker and Larry Ogunjobi are expected to start inside.

LB Shaq Thompson will also miss the game. Fortunately, both Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard are cleared to play, ensuring Buffalo’s linebacker corps remains strong. Joe Andreessen and Dorian Williams will serve as backups.

CB Taron Johnson is perhaps the most significant new absence, ruled out after developing a groin injury late in the week. Expect Cam Lewis to cover the slot while Dane Jackson, elevated from the practice squad, takes over on special teams coverage.

CB/Returner Brandon Codrington is a healthy scratch once again, meaning Curtis Samuel will handle kickoff return duties. Ty Johnson or Ray Davis could also rotate in, while Khalil Shakir will manage punt returns.

    Chiefs’ Inactives Still Pending

As of this report, Kansas City has yet to release its full list of inactive players for the Week 9 clash. The Chiefs entered the week with only two players ruled out, though official details are expected closer to kickoff.

Outlook for the Bills vs. Chiefs Matchup

This AFC showdown could have major postseason implications. With Buffalo missing defensive starters like Oliver and Jones, the Chiefs’ offensive line may find more room for Patrick Mahomes and the run game to operate. On the other hand, the Bills’ offense, led by Josh Allen, remains intact and will look to exploit Kansas City’s secondary.

The Bills’ Week 9 inactives vs. the Kansas City Chiefs highlight how critical depth will be for both teams as the playoff race tightens heading into midseason.

FYI (keeping you in the loop)-

Q1: Who are the Buffalo Bills’ Week 9 inactives vs. the Chiefs?

Key inactives include WR Joshua Palmer, DT DaQuan Jones, LB Shaq Thompson, CB Taron Johnson, and rookie EDGE Landon Jackson.

Q2: Why is Ed Oliver not listed as inactive?

Oliver is on injured reserve after tearing his bicep last week, so he’s not part of the 53-man active roster.

Q3: Who replaces Taron Johnson at cornerback?

Cam Lewis will play in the slot, with Dane Jackson handling special teams coverage duties.

Q4: Who will return kicks and punts for Buffalo?

Curtis Samuel will handle kickoffs, while Khalil Shakir will field punts for the Bills in Week 9.

Q5: When will the Chiefs release their Week 9 inactives?

Kansas City’s inactive list is expected roughly 90 minutes before kickoff, per NFL policy.
