CFMoto appears to be preparing another addition to its expanding sportbike range, with new regulatory filings in China revealing details of a machine called the CFMoto 500SR. The motorcycle has surfaced through type approval documents, offering the clearest indication yet that the company intends to develop a fully faired supersport built around the same mechanical platform as the retro styled 500SR Voom.
The appearance of the documents suggests the project has moved beyond the prototype phase that was briefly seen several years ago. At the time, the motorcycle appeared disguised alongside the three cylinder 675SR R, which ultimately reached production first while the 500SR seemed to fade from view.
Recent filings now indicate that the model has undergone a significant redesign since those early sightings.
A Supersport Direction For The 500SR Platform
Unlike the Voom, which was developed with a neo retro theme, the 500SR is expected to follow the sharper visual identity used across CFMotoâs SR series. That family currently includes machines such as the 675 SR R, along with the upcoming 750 SR S and the V4 powered 1000 SR RR.
Images referenced in the type approval material point toward a traditional supersport silhouette. The bike features angular front lighting with slim eyebrow style daytime running lights, replacing the Voomâs circular headlamp layout. Mirrors are mounted on the fairing rather than the handlebar ends, further reinforcing its sportbike orientation.
Beneath the new bodywork, the motorcycle remains closely related to the 500SR Voom. It uses the same tubular steel frame and identical engine configuration.
The power unit is a 499cc inline four cylinder engine producing 79 horsepower at 12,500 rpm and 49 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. Those figures place the motorcycle squarely in the performance bracket typically associated with middleweight sport machines.
Chassis specifications appear unchanged as well. The documents describe a wheelbase of 1,395 mm, supported by adjustable 41 mm upside down front forks and a rear monoshock suspension system. A distinctive dual under seat exhaust arrangement also carries over from the Voom.
Weight figures listed in the filing suggest the 500SR will come in slightly lighter than its retro sibling. The reported kerb weight is 187 kilograms, which is around seven kilograms less than the Voom.
For now, CFMoto has not announced any official production schedule or market rollout. If the earlier Voomâs sales footprint is any indication, the new model may be aimed primarily at regions such as China and Australia.
The emergence of the type approval documents nonetheless signals that development is progressing, and it places the 500SR as another potential entry in the increasingly competitive middleweight supersport segment.
For CFMoto, a company that has been steadily expanding its global presence, the bike represents another step in broadening the SR performance lineup.
