China has designed a prototype of its next-generation high-speed train, which it says will be the world’s fastest, according to a report by US media outlet CNN News.

China’s CR450 Train

According to data from China’s Ministry of Transport, the CR450, has been showed in Beijing on December 29, 2024, has a top speed of 450 kilometers per hour (281 miles per hour) and an operational speed of 400 kilometers per hour (248.5 miles per hour).

Once it enters commercial service, it could become the world’s fastest high-speed train, surpassing China’s current CR400 model, which debuted in 2017 and can reach speeds of 350 kilometers (217 miles) per hour.

The new train was jointly built by Chengchun Railway Vehicles and Sifang Company Limited. After building the train, they commented that its speed, energy efficiency, noise control, and braking system were quite good.

The train has undergone 3,000 simulations and more than 2,000 platform tests. However, it needs more line tests and inspections before it can carry passengers.
