INTERNATIONAL DESK: The construction of a new government degree college in the Boniyar area of the Uri sector in the Baramulla district of northern Kashmir is in full swing.
Last year, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, laid the foundation stone for this new college.
Locals and students from the Uri sector in the Baramulla district praised the construction of a new graduate college.
The absence of a university degree in the Uri sector has forced a large number of students to interrupt their studies and those who wish to continue their education have to travel long distances to reach their respective educational institutions.
Speaking to ANI, Aquib Ahmad, a student, said that they do not have to travel to other places to study after the opening of the university.
“Construction has started, and I hope that construction will be done as soon as possible because Tehsil Boniyar is a far away area and there is a town near the international borders, so to graduate we have to go to Baramulla or Uri. And both places are about 20-25 kilometers from here. Traveling takes hours, if the university is built earlier, we don’t have to travel to other places, “Ahmad added.
Dr. Tariq Hussain, director of the Boniyar government degree college, said that the total cost of building the university is approximately 13.92 million rupees.
“Among the 52 newly established universities in the state, one of them is Government Degree College, Boniyar. In ongoing construction on campus we are building two laboratory blocks at a cost of Rs 21 lakhs and the cost is estimated at Rs 13.92 crore,” he said. .
“LG laid the first stone in October 2020. The first phase of construction will be completed in 15 months, the second phase will start in 2023. We have enrolled about 230 students for the first year. We are offering an Arts course, “Hussain said further.
Mushtaq Mir, district president of BJP Baramulla, said that students had to travel to Baramulla or Uri for further study earlier.
“I am very grateful to LG for the university degree in Boniyar, the college is a great development for students in the area. Students had to travel to Baramulla or Uri to continue their studies, but the government noted that a college should settle here in Boniyar and I want our LG to open the college after its completion, “he said.
