An elite overclocker has pushed DDR5 memory to a staggering new world record. The achievement breaks the 13,000 MT/s barrier for the first time. This feat was accomplished using a specialized Gigabyte motherboard and extreme liquid nitrogen cooling.

    DDR5 overclocking record

The record solidifies the immense overclocking potential of next-generation memory technology. It demonstrates significant performance headroom beyond standard specifications.

Technical Breakdown of the Record-Setting Overclock

The overclocker known as SaltyCroissant led the effort. He used a Gigabyte Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE motherboard. The system also featured Corsair Vengeance DDR5 memory and an Intel Core Ultra 7 265K processor.

Liquid nitrogen was essential to cool the CPU and memory modules. This extreme cooling prevents thermal throttling at such high frequencies. The team included other renowned overclocking experts like HiCookie and Sofos.

The officially validated frequency reached 12,920.2 MT/s. This beats the previous record of 12,872.2 MT/s. It is nearly 2.7 times faster than standard JEDEC DDR5 speeds.

Unofficially, the system even briefly hit 13,020 MT/s. Achieving this required very loose timings, set to CL68. Such settings are not ideal for daily use but are necessary for record attempts.

What This Achievement Means for the Future

This record is a benchmark for engineering and hardware capability. It shows the progress being made in memory technology. Pushing these limits often leads to improvements for consumer products down the line.

For now, these speeds remain in the realm of elite enthusiasts. The average user does not need this level of performance. However, it points to a future where faster memory becomes more accessible.

Motherboard makers are already exploring new form factors like CAMM2. This could enable even higher stable frequencies in the future. The relentless pursuit of speed continues to drive innovation across the industry.

This new DDR5 overclocking record proves that memory technology still has significant room to grow. It sets a new high-water mark for performance enthusiasts worldwide.

    Who is SaltyCroissant?

SaltyCroissant is a professional overclocker from Canada. He is well-known in the community for achieving extreme hardware records. This latest feat adds to his reputation.

What motherboard was used for this record?

The record was set on the Gigabyte Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE. This motherboard is specifically designed for competitive overclocking. It features only two DDR5 slots to optimize signal integrity.

Is this DDR5 speed practical for everyday use?

No, these speeds are not practical for daily computing. They require extreme cooling and highly unstable settings. Standard DDR5 kits around 6,000-8,000 MT/s are more than sufficient for most users.

Why is liquid nitrogen used for overclocking?

Liquid nitrogen provides extreme cooling far beyond standard air or water coolers. This allows components to run at much higher voltages and frequencies without overheating. It is essential for breaking world records.

What is the standard speed for DDR5 memory?

The baseline JEDEC standard for DDR5 memory is 4,800 MT/s. Most memory kits sold today are overclocked versions that run reliably at speeds between 5,600 and 7,200 MT/s out of the box.
