Delta Air Lines has officially announced plans to launch its first-ever nonstop flights between Atlanta and Riyadh in fall 2026. This new route will connect Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) with Riyadh King Khalid International Airport (RUH), marking the airline’s debut in Saudi Arabia and a major milestone for U.S.–Middle East air travel.

The Atlanta–Riyadh service represents a bold move by Delta as it expands into one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets. According to official statements, the route is expected to strengthen tourism, trade, and business connectivity between North America and the Gulf region.

Delta’s Partnership With Riyadh Air Powers the Expansion

The upcoming Atlanta–Riyadh route stems from Delta’s 2024 strategic partnership with Riyadh Air, the new full-service Saudi carrier backed by the Kingdom’s Public Investment Fund. Both airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding to coordinate schedules, share codes, and potentially establish a long-term transatlantic joint venture.

This collaboration will allow Delta passengers to access Riyadh Air’s growing regional network, linking destinations across Saudi Arabia, Africa, and Asia. In return, Riyadh Air customers will gain access to Delta’s extensive U.S. domestic and international routes via Atlanta. The partnership is designed to enhance connectivity, improve loyalty benefits, and streamline long-haul travel between the two nations.

Atlanta–Riyadh to Be Operated by Airbus A350-900

Delta plans to operate the Atlanta–Riyadh service using the Airbus A350-900, its flagship long-haul aircraft known for fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. The aircraft will feature Delta One Suites, Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin seating options across a three-class configuration.

Covering roughly 7,283 miles, the route will be one of Delta’s longest nonstop flights. The A350’s modern design, advanced air filtration, and quiet cabin environment make it well-suited for the extended journey. Delta is expected to use its “35H” layout to balance premium and economy capacity, targeting strong demand from corporate and high-end leisure travelers.

Saudi Arabia’s Air Connectivity Push Encourages Delta’s Entry

Saudi Arabia’s Air Connectivity Program, a government-backed initiative, is helping attract new global routes by offering incentives to airlines like Delta. The program aims to establish Saudi Arabia as a major international hub by 2030, in line with Vision 2030’s tourism and economic diversification goals.

Through these incentives, the Kingdom hopes to boost annual tourist arrivals beyond 100 million and strengthen its position as a key gateway to the Middle East. Delta’s move aligns with this goal and will provide U.S. travelers with faster access to Saudi Arabia’s cultural, religious, and business destinations.

Competition Among U.S. Airlines in the Gulf Market

Delta’s decision to launch flights to Riyadh positions it directly against other major U.S. carriers expanding in the Gulf. United Airlines currently partners with Emirates for its Dubai service, while American Airlines is aligned with Qatar Airways in Doha. Delta’s partnership with Riyadh Air fills a strategic gap, enabling it to compete more effectively in the region.

This partnership also strengthens ties with Delta’s existing European allies, Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic, allowing integrated travel options from the U.S. to the Middle East through a unified global network.

Boost to Business and Tourism Between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia

The new route is expected to transform business and tourism exchanges between Atlanta and Riyadh. Direct flights will eliminate the need for connections through Europe or the Gulf, cutting several hours from travel times. Travelers will have direct access to Saudi Arabia’s emerging entertainment districts, mega-projects, and new international events under Vision 2030.

For Atlanta, this new link underscores its status as a premier global hub, expanding economic and cultural opportunities. The move reflects Delta’s broader strategy to establish premium-focused, long-haul routes powered by strong international partnerships.

Delta Air Lines’ Riyadh flights in 2026 mark a new chapter in U.S.–Saudi aviation history, setting the stage for deeper connections in travel, trade, and innovation across continents.
