Delta Air Lines has announced updates to its SkyMiles program that will affect how members earn and use elite status for 2026. The changes were confirmed on December 15, 2025, and apply to Medallion Status qualification and benefits.
The airline says the updates are designed to add value for frequent flyers while keeping existing status thresholds in place. SkyMiles members have until December 31, 2025, to qualify for 2026 Medallion Status.
Delta SkyMiles Changes for 2026 and How Status Is Earned
The core structure of Medallion Qualification Dollars remains unchanged for 2026. Delta confirmed that Silver Medallion still requires 5,000 MQDs, Gold requires 10,000 MQDs, Platinum requires 15,000 MQDs, and Diamond requires 28,000 MQDs.
MQDs can be earned by flying with Delta or partner airlines, using eligible Delta SkyMiles American Express cards, or booking Delta Vacations packages. Delta has emphasized that these methods will continue to count the same way for both 2026 and 2027.
The airline also confirmed that Medallion thresholds will not increase for the 2027 program year. That assurance is intended to help members plan long-term travel and spending strategies.
For members who fall just short of a tier, Delta will again offer its Elevate Your Status option. Eligible SkyMiles and Medallion members can purchase additional MQDs to reach a higher tier for 2026, subject to program terms.
These changes reflect Delta’s broader strategy to reward loyalty while keeping qualification rules stable. Industry analysts cited by outlets such as Reuters and the Associated Press have noted that airlines are under pressure to balance elite benefits with rising travel demand.
Expanded Benefits for Platinum and Diamond Members
Delta is expanding benefits for its top-tier flyers beginning in 2026. One of the most notable changes is the ability to gift Medallion Status to other SkyMiles members.
Platinum Medallion members will be able to gift Silver Medallion Status to up to four people. This doubles the previous limit of two recipients.
Diamond Medallion members will now be able to gift Gold Medallion Status to four people, also up from two. Delta said the expansion reflects strong demand for shared status benefits among frequent travelers.
Bonus mileage awards are also increasing. Platinum Medallion members will receive 35,000 bonus SkyMiles. Diamond Medallion members will receive 40,000 bonus SkyMiles.
Travel vouchers are another key enhancement. Platinum members may select vouchers valued at 350 dollars for 2026. Diamond members may select vouchers valued at 550 dollars.
Delta says these vouchers can be used across its network, giving members flexibility when planning personal or family travel.
Delta SkyMiles Changes for 2026 reinforce the airline’s focus on rewarding loyalty while keeping qualification rules predictable for future years.
