ZAKIR HOSSAIN, RANGPUR : At least 25 people received injuries when six vehicles collided on Dhaka-Rangpur highway near Garer Matha area under Mithapukur upazila of the district on Saturday morning due to dense fog.
According to the locals and highway police, the vehicles hailing from Dhaka lost control due to poor visibility caused by foggy weather and collided with each other.
On information, the highway police from Barodorga station reached the spot and rescued the injured persons. They also cleared the highway.
Barodorga Highway Police in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman told Zoombangla that slippery roads and low visibility led the drivers losing control over steering and caused the collision.
The prevailing foggy weather continues to cause road accidents across the Rangpur region.
Drivers and passengers have been advised to use headlights and drive cautiously even in daytime due to decreased visibility in many areas, Moniruzzaman added.
On Friday five people were killed in three separate road accidents in the district.
Rangpur Highway Police Region Superintendent Mohammad Tariqul Islam urged all commuters to follow traffic rules and maintain a moderate speed of the vehicles especially in the foggy weather during the winter to avoid accidents.
