Dhaka does not want any country’s interference: Momen

ZOOMBANGLA DESK: Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen today said Dhaka doesn’t want any country – “does not matter who” – to interfere in Bangladesh’s internal issues.

“No country needs to get concerned regarding our internal matters,” he told reporters while his attention was drawn to the recent remarks made by both the US and Russian sides regarding Bangladesh.

“We are a matured country. We are a sovereign country. We are an independent country,” Momen said at the foreign ministry this afternoon.

The foreign minister said that other countries do not need to give prescriptions to Bangladesh on democracy, human rights and justice as these are deeply rooted in Bangladesh’s history.

However, he said, Dhaka welcomes constructive suggestions from foreign friends.

Momen said the current Awami League government is committed to holding free, fair, transparent and inclusive elections under the independent Election Commission.

Responding to a question on the formal inauguration of Dhaka Metro Rail, Momen said the government remains grateful to Japan for their uninterrupted support.

He lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for realizing the huge projects like the Metro Rail and Padma Bridge.
