Dhaka lauds US for recognizing atrocities on Rohinya as genocide

ZOOMBANGLA DESK: Dhaka has appreciated the US government for supporting the United Nations (UN) resolution related to the Rohingya crisis and for recognizing the atrocities committed against Rohingyas in Myanmar as genocide.

The appreciation was made while the visiting US Senior Director for South Asia, National Security Council Rear Admiral Eileen Laubacher met with Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen at the State Guest House Padma in the capital this afternoon, a foreign ministry press release said.

In her four-day tour in Bangladesh, Laubacher visited Rohingya camps.

During the meeting, Laubacher praised the bold decision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for allowing in and providing shelter to over a million forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals who were fleeing genocide.

While there is enormous demand for resources for the livelihood of this large population, they discussed about the support of the international community for this distressed population.

Apart from Rohingya issue, they also discussed about different bilateral issues including defense cooperation, indo-pacific strategy, development cooperation, maritime safety and security, strengthening capacities of the law enforcing agencies and cyber security.
