DJI has introduced the Mini 5 Pro, its most advanced mini drone to date. The drone was unveiled on 17 September 2025 and comes with a 50MP 1-inch sensor, a first in the mini drone category. It also includes improved obstacle sensing, new camera modes, and up to 36 minutes of flight time.
This launch signals a big leap for DJI’s Mini range. However, it also raises questions about weight regulations, as some units may exceed the 250g threshold. For many hobbyists, that threshold has always been key to avoiding extra rules and registration.
DJI Mini 5 Pro Key Specs and Features
The Mini 5 Pro carries a 50MP 1-inch CMOS sensor that improves detail in low light. It records 4K HDR video at 60fps and supports slow motion at 120fps. The drone can also shoot in 10-bit D-Log M and HLG modes for greater color depth.
Camera movement has been upgraded with a 225° gimbal rotation and true vertical shooting. This means users can capture skyscrapers or waterfalls in vertical mode without cropping. Intelligent flight modes like QuickShot, MasterShots, and Waypoint Flight are also included.
For safety, the drone adds forward-facing LiDAR, omnidirectional sensors, and new Nightscape obstacle sensing. It supports Night Return-to-Home and even non-GNSS return when satellite signals are weak. According to DJI, the dual-band GNSS also improves stability.
Price, Availability, and Weight Concerns
The Mini 5 Pro is priced from £689 in the UK and 799 EUR in Europe. Fly More Combo packages range from £869 to £979, depending on the controller. It is not currently available in the US due to trade restrictions.
DJI claims the drone weighs 249.9g. But the fine print shows a ±4g margin, meaning some units could cross the 250g line. Using the larger “Plus” battery also pushes weight higher. For pilots in Europe, the UK, and the US, that could mean stricter rules.
According to Reuters, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) exempts drones under 250g from some requirements. A small weight increase could force registration or limit flight zones. This is the first time DJI has admitted the Mini line may not always stay under the limit.
The DJI Mini 5 Pro raises the bar for mini drones. But it also blurs the line on what “sub-250g” really means. Drone users may need to weigh before they fly.
