The fallout over Don 3 has moved beyond quiet industry disagreement and into a formal mediation process, with sharply differing accounts emerging from actor Ranveer Singh and the filmâs producers at Excel Entertainment.

Singh, who was unveiled in 2023 as the new face of the franchise, stepped away from the project earlier this year. His exit marked a significant turn for a film that had been positioned as the next chapter in a series once led by Amitabh Bachchan and later Shah Rukh Khan.
According to reports, Singh has attributed his departure to what he described as unprofessional conduct and a lack of serious movement on the film. He is said to have alleged that Don 3 had not progressed meaningfully towards production and that he was not provided with a bound script. There were also claims that director Farhan Akhtar was unwilling to accept certain feedback and faced difficulty incorporating some subplots.
Another point of contention, as reported, concerns casting discussions. Singh has allegedly claimed that Excel explored the possibility of bringing Hrithik Roshan on board and approached him again only after the commercial success of his 2025 film Dhurandhar, seeking to benefit from renewed box office momentum.
Excel Entertainment, led by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, has strongly pushed back. Reports indicate the producers maintain that Singh had approved various drafts of the script and that pre-production activity began only after receiving his consent. They argue that his withdrawal occurred late in the process, resulting in substantial financial exposure.
The company is reportedly seeking around âš40 crore in compensation, citing expenses linked to scheduling, planning and other pre-production commitments. There have also been counter-allegations suggesting that Singh made excessive demands, including multiple vanity vans and the presence of a DJ on set. No official confirmation of these claims has been issued by either side.
With positions hardening, the Producers Guild of India has stepped in. Two closed-door meetings are said to have taken place, attended by senior industry figures including Aamir Khan, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ramesh Taurani and Kumar Taurani. Discussions reportedly centred on resolving the present dispute and examining safeguards to prevent similar standoffs in future projects.
For now, Don 3 remains in limbo. Farhan Akhtar is understood to be in no hurry to recast the lead and has placed the film on hold, turning his attention to Jee Le Zaraa, which stars Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif.

An official statement from either Ranveer Singh or Excel Entertainment is still awaited. Until then, much of the debate rests on competing narratives, with mediation ongoing and the franchiseâs immediate future unclear.
