Dozens of private cars stolen in Kabul since Taliban takeover

INTERNATIONAL DESK: There are reports that dozens of private vehicles have been stolen in Kabul following the fall of the city to the Taliban on Sunday.

A resident in Kabul said that on Tuesday armed men stopped him in PD3 of the city and took all his belongings and his car.

Residents in Kabul asked the Taliban to help improve the security situation in the city.

The Taliban have pledged to maintain security in the city.

Ghulam Farooq, a resident of Kabul, said that on Tuesday the armed men stopped him and took his car in the Karte-e-Sakhi area of Kabul.

“Those who are stealing in the name of the Taliban must be apprehended,” said Baba Jan, a resident in Kabul.

“We talked with the local police station and informed the people on our street, I also talked with a Taliban fighter on our street, he said that I am not authorized to shoot,” said a resident in Kabul.

“We are here to serve the people, we are here to apprehend the thieves and gangs,” said Mawlavi Mirwais Faizi, a Taliban military commander in Kart-e-Se in PD3.

“The people do not know about their future, they are uncertain. Although the Taliban promised to not search houses and to not hurt women and men–still the situation is vague, the people do not have trust in the Taliban,” said Abdullah, a resident in Kabul.

A Taliban military commander said the Taliban will treat harshly anyone trying to disrupt the peace and calm of the people.

Meanwhile, footage on social media shows that armed men entered a house in Kabul under the name of the Taliban and mistreated family members.

Despite the Taliban calling on government employees to return to their work, all government institutions have been closed in the city for the past three days.

This comes a day after Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid at a press conference assured the Afghan people that the Taliban would provide security for them.

He said that the situation in the country will improve after the formation of an inclusive government.
