The arrival of the Desmo450 MX marks a quiet but notable shift for Ducati in India, as the brand steps into a segment it has not previously explored here. Priced at Rs 17.23 lakh, ex-showroom, the motorcycle brings the Italian manufacturer into the country’s off-road and motocross space for the first time.

The Desmo450 MX is built around a 449.6cc, single-cylinder engine, carrying the company’s distinctive Desmodromic valve system. Ducati says the motor has been tuned to deliver a wide powerband, with a clear focus on usable torque through lower and mid-range revs, while still holding performance at higher engine speeds.
There is an evident attempt to balance mechanical performance with electronic oversight. The motorcycle comes equipped with a traction control system designed to monitor rear wheel slip and step in only when necessary, rather than interrupting constantly. The approach suggests a focus on maintaining rider control without diluting the riding experience.
The chassis reflects a similar line of thinking. Ducati has used a lightweight aluminium frame with minimal welds, a choice aimed at improving rigidity without adding unnecessary mass. Suspension duties are handled by a Showa upside-down fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear, both offering adjustability. Braking is managed by a 260mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear.
Bookings for the motorcycle have already opened, with deliveries expected to begin by the end of March 2026. Availability, however, will remain limited for now, with the Desmo450 MX set to be sold through select Ducati dealerships in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune.
Alongside the motorcycle, Ducati plans to offer a range of accessories under its Ducati Performance catalogue. These include factory-grade components such as machined wheel hubs, triple clamps, a full Akrapovič titanium exhaust system, and Brembo Racing brake calipers.

For Ducati, the move introduces a new direction in its India portfolio, extending beyond its established road-focused lineup into a more specialised category. How that plays out in a niche but evolving segment will become clearer once deliveries begin and the motorcycle reaches its first set of riders.
