Amazon Prime Video drops all eight episodes of Elle on July 1, a prequel series set in Seattle in 1995 that follows a teenage Elle Woods before she ever set foot in Harvard Law School. Newcomer Lexi Minetree plays the teenage version of the character Reese Witherspoon made famous in the 2001 film Legally Blonde. June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott are cast as Elle’s parents, Eva and Wyatt. The show received an early Season 2 renewal from Prime Video in January 2026, months before it airs.
Unlike the weekly drops that have become standard for streaming series, Prime Video is releasing all eight episodes of Elle’s first season at once on July 1. That means viewers can watch the full story in a single sitting or pace it however they choose.
What the Show Is About
Elle picks up with its protagonist at the start of her junior year of high school. The show deals with tricky friendships, a forbidden romance, and what the writers call “questionable fashion choices” — the last detail a signal that the series isn’t trying to replicate the tone of the original film but build something that can stand beside it. The setting is 1995 Seattle, keeping the story firmly in the era before mobile phones and social media changed how teenagers navigate school and relationships.
Reese Witherspoon, who played adult Elle in Legally Blonde (2001) and its 2003 sequel, serves as executive producer on the series. The supporting cast includes Chandler Kinney, Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Zac Looker, Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, and Amy Pietz.
Why Prime Video Renewed It Before It Aired
Early renewals before a show has aired are rare and typically mean one of two things: the streamer has already tested the show with audiences and liked what it found, or it has made a strategic decision to treat the IP as a long-running franchise from the start. Season 2 of Elle, already in development, is expected to cover Elle’s second semester of junior year — suggesting the writers are working from a longer-term plan rather than a single story.
Variety published the Elle trailer in June 2026, and early reviews from the Seattle Times described the show as “a charmer.” That kind of response to a Legally Blonde prequel — a property with strong existing nostalgia — is the best possible outcome for a franchise Prime Video is clearly betting on for multiple seasons.
How to Watch Elle on July 1
All eight episodes of Elle Season 1 arrive on Prime Video on July 1, 2026. An Amazon Prime subscription is required for access in the US and most international markets. The episodes are expected to be available to stream globally in regions where Prime Video operates, with subtitles and dubbed options rolling out at launch.
If you haven’t seen the original 2001 Legally Blonde, it’s currently available on Amazon Prime Video as well — useful context for understanding how far the teenage Elle Woods shown in this series will eventually go.
If Prime Video’s early Season 2 bet pays off, Elle could be exactly the kind of franchise anchor that keeps mid-range subscribers renewing their Prime memberships year over year.
