Education Sub-Saharan Africa launches new research grants. The initiative targets academics in four specific nations. Applications are open until October 31, 2025.

 ESSA Research Grants

This program aims to strengthen education policy and teaching practices. It is supported by the Gates Foundation. The goal is to improve foundational learning outcomes across the region.

Grant Details and Country Focus

ESSA will award up to four grants per country. Each grant is valued at up to $15,000. The funds cover direct research costs and dissemination efforts.

Eligible researchers must be citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, or Zambia. They must also be currently based in their home country. The research must address specific national priorities in education.

According to the official announcement, the lead applicant must hold a PhD. They should work for a university, research institution, or government ministry. This ensures high-quality, relevant research.

Building on a Successful Foundation

This is the second phase of a collaborative project. ESSA is working with the Research for Equitable Access and Learning Centre. Phase one successfully built researcher capacity.

The new grants continue that critical work. They empower local experts to find local solutions. This approach is vital for sustainable educational development.

The findings will directly inform policy and classroom practice. This creates a powerful link between academic study and real-world impact. It helps bridge a crucial gap in the education sector.
