Ethan Dietz, a 20-year-old basketball player from Connors State College, died on November 25 after suffering a severe head injury during a game in Denison, Texas. He was injured while playing against Grayson College on November 22.
Dietz was taken to a nearby Texas hospital but did not recover from the injury. The school confirmed his passing and called the loss heartbreaking for the entire campus community.
Dietz, a 6 ft 8 in forward from Conway, Arkansas, was in his second year at Connors State. He started the first eight games of the season and averaged 11 points and 9.4 rebounds.
School officials praised his character, work ethic, and leadership. Connors State cancelled several games and scheduled a campus vigil to honor Dietz’s life on December 1.
The tragedy has left teammates, coaches, and fans mourning a promising young athlete whose life was cut short during competition.
