This data comes from a new analysis by Counterpoint Research. The firm tracks global smartphone shipments. The strong performance follows the launch of Samsung’s latest models.

A Significant Year-Over-Year Jump in Market Share

Samsung’s market share represents a notable increase. The tech giant held 56% of the foldable market in the same quarter last year. This marks a 32% year-over-year growth in shipments.

According to Counterpoint Research, new product releases drove this success. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 were key. These launches helped Samsung consolidate its lead.

Huawei and Motorola followed in second and third place. They held 15% and 7% market share respectively. Their positions remained unchanged from Q3 2024.

Other Chinese brands filled out the rankings. Honor, Vivo, and Xiaomi held 6%, 4%, and 2% shares. The global foldable market continues to see intense competition.

Market Growth and Future Challenges for Samsung

The broader smartphone market is also expanding. Global shipments grew 14% year-over-year. Analysts expect further growth into 2026.

This presents a clear opportunity for Samsung. The company can leverage its strong position. However, a major new competitor is on the horizon.

Apple is expected to enter the foldable phone market next year. Its launch could reshape the competitive landscape. Samsung will need to innovate to maintain its dominant footprint.

Samsung continues to push the envelope on form factors. The company recently unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold. This device features a pioneering tri-folding display design.

Samsung’s current dominance in foldable phone shipments is clear. Its ability to retain this lead faces a critical test next year. The arrival of Apple’s foldable iPhone will challenge the market leader.
