According to the Indian Student’s Association of Tallahassee, around 30 Indian students were severely impacted. The incident has sparked multiple community fundraising efforts to support the victims.

Dozens of FSU Students Displaced by Blaze

The fire resulted in the displacement of 72 adults. Officials confirmed that 53 of those individuals were FSU students. A significant 90 percent of the displaced Seminoles were foreign students.

This has created an urgent need for basic necessities. The student association is coordinating aid for essentials like food, clothing, and winter wear.

Fundraisers Launch for Critically Injured Victims

One critically injured student has been identified as Preet Harsoda. The 27-year-old recently arrived in Florida from India to pursue his studies. He suffered life-threatening burns over 65-70% of his body.

Harsoda was initially treated at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He was then urgently airlifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he remains in intensive care. A separate GoFundMe campaign aims to support his extensive medical and family expenses.

Another victim, Mohammad Aamir Hussain, also sustained severe injuries. The 23-year-old electrical engineering student suffered third-degree burns on 48% of his body while trying to escape. Community fundraising efforts are now crucial for their long-term recovery.

The community’s rapid response highlights the profound impact of this tragedy on the FSU student body, particularly its international members. Support for the victims continues to grow as they face a challenging road to recovery.
