Fresh hands-on images of Casioâs latest full-metal square watch, the GMW-BZ5000RC-1, are offering a clearer sense of how the model departs from earlier iterations in the same line. While official renders had already outlined the watchâs direction, these real-world shots suggest a more pronounced shift in both construction and visual character.

What stands out first is the treatment of the case. The rainbow ion-plated center layer is not confined to a flat surface detail. Instead, it runs through the mid-section of the case and becomes visible along the sides, particularly near the lugs and around the button guards. Under changing light, the finish moves between blue, purple, and gold tones, giving the watch a noticeably dynamic appearance that is difficult to capture in static imagery.
The layered construction is easier to understand in these images. Several unfinished metal shells are shown alongside a completed unit, illustrating the multiple stages involved in machining and finishing. The segmentation of the case is more defined than before. There are clearer separations between the bezel, the outer structure, and the inner frame, with visible transitions between polished steel and the colored mid-layer.
From the side, the structure appears more complex than earlier GMW-B5000 models. Screws and pushers show slight tonal differences, adding to the sense that the watch is built from distinct components rather than a single unified shell.
The front remains familiar in layout, keeping the square profile associated with the series. However, the use of a high-definition MIP display changes how information is presented. In the hands-on images, the display appears sharper, particularly when rendering smaller text and secondary data. The interface itself looks denser, with more information visible at once compared to older versions.
Attention has also been given to the bracelet. It continues to use stainless steel, but the finishing is more varied. Brushed links are paired with polished edges, creating a mix of textures that complements the layered case design.

Taken together, the watch appears less like a refinement and more like a reworking of the established formula. The changes are subtle in isolation but become more apparent when viewed in natural lighting, where the materials and finishes interact more freely.
