General Motors is integrating a native Apple Music app directly into its vehicles. The app is coming to select 2025 and newer Cadillac and Chevrolet models. This move provides built-in access for subscribers without needing a phone. It marks a significant shift in how drivers access entertainment on the road.

Apple Music appThe announcement confirms GM’s strategy to deepen its own software ecosystem. According to the company, this offers a seamless, high-quality audio experience. It reflects a broader industry trend of automakers developing proprietary infotainment platforms.

Enhanced Features and Eight-Year Connectivity Offer

The native app offers full access to the Apple Music catalog. This includes curated playlists, live radio, and personalized recommendations. In supported Cadillac models, drivers can experience Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. Voice assistant control allows for hands-free operation.

GM states the app integrates deeply with the vehicle’s infotainment system. Subscribers can start streaming immediately upon entering the car. Audio streaming is part of the OnStar Basics package for 2026 and newer U.S. and Canadian vehicles.

Vehicle owners will receive this connectivity at no extra cost. This benefit lasts for eight years from the vehicle’s purchase date. After this period, a subscription fee will apply for continued service.

A Strategic Move Amid Shift from Apple CarPlay

This launch is part of GM’s larger pivot away from smartphone mirroring. The company began phasing out Apple CarPlay in its new electric vehicles last year. GM plans to move its entire future vehicle lineup to its own Ultifi software platform.

The decision aims to keep users within GM’s digital ecosystem. It allows for tighter integration between vehicle functions and entertainment services. However, it also means drivers lose the familiar CarPlay interface.

The affected Cadillac models include the 2025-2026 CT5 and Escalade IQ. Chevrolet models include the Blazer EV, Equinox EV, and Silverado EV. GM promises the app will expand to more vehicles and brands over time.

The new native Apple Music app represents GM’s committed bet on its in-house infotainment future. This move enhances audio luxury for drivers while strategically distancing the brand from phone-based systems.

Dropping this nugget your way

Which GM vehicles are getting the Apple Music app first?

The initial rollout includes the 2025 and 2026 Cadillac CT5, Escalade IQ, and Vistiq. For Chevrolet, it covers the 2025-2026 Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Silverado EV, and the 2026 Corvette, Suburban, and Tahoe.

Do I need my iPhone to use Apple Music in these GM cars?

No. The app is built directly into the car’s infotainment system. An active Apple Music subscription is required, but you can access it natively without connecting your phone.

Is there an extra cost for the data connection to stream music?

GM provides the connectivity as part of OnStar Basics for eight years at no extra charge. This applies to 2026 and newer models sold in the U.S. and Canada. A fee will apply after the eight-year period ends.

Will these GM vehicles still have Apple CarPlay?

Most new GM electric vehicles from 2024 onward do not support Apple CarPlay. The company is transitioning its entire lineup to its own software platform, making the native Apple Music app a key alternative.

What is Spatial Audio and is it available?

Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos creates a immersive, multi-dimensional sound experience. GM confirms this premium feature is available specifically in supported Cadillac vehicles with the new app.
