A longtime California resident was detained by immigration agents during a routine appointment. Babblejit ‘Bubbly’ Kaur, 60, was taken into custody on December 1. The Indian-origin woman has lived in America since 1994. She has no criminal record. Her sudden detention has shocked her community and drawn political attention.

Babblejit Kaur’s green card process was nearly complete. Her application was sponsored by her U.S. citizen daughter. Her husband is a lawful permanent resident.

According to family accounts reported by Reuters, the arrest was abrupt. Several federal agents entered the building. They called Kaur into a back room and informed her she was under arrest.

She was allowed one brief call to her attorney. Then she was taken away. Her family did not know her location for several hours.

They later found her using an online detainee locator. Kaur was moved to the Adelanto ICE Processing Center. This facility is near Victorville, California.

Adelanto is a former federal prison. It now holds immigration detainees. Her family describes the conditions as harsh.

Kaur is in a large dorm with many others. Lights stay on overnight. Constant noise makes sleep very difficult.

Visiting hours are severely limited. Family members often wait all day for a short visit. Her daughter calls the situation a nightmare.

Community Response and Legal Fight

The case has sparked local outrage. Kaur and her husband were longtime business owners. They ran Natraj Cuisine of India and Nepal for over twenty years.

She also worked at a local Rite Aid for about 25 years. The couple is well-known in the Long Beach area.

Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia is advocating for her release. He represents Long Beach. His office calls the detention horrific.

They are in contact with federal authorities. The family is preparing additional legal filings. These could secure her release on bond.

A GoFundMe campaign has raised significant funds. The money will help cover legal and personal costs. The campaign highlights the uncertainty of her situation.

The Department of Homeland Security has not commented publicly. No clear reason for the detention has been given to the family.

Her attorney has filed necessary motions. The legal system is now reviewing her case. There is no set timeline for a resolution.

A Case Highlighting Broader Issues

This incident is not isolated. It reflects wider concerns about immigration procedures. Detentions during application processes create fear.

Advocates argue the system lacks transparency. Families are often left in the dark. The human cost of detention is significant.

Kaur’s story underscores these systemic challenges. It shows how legal residents can face sudden upheaval.

Babblejit Kaur remains detained as her legal battle continues. Her case highlights the unpredictable nature of immigration enforcement during a green card interview. The community awaits a just resolution.
