A historic Ojai hotel has reopened after a meticulous renovation. Hotel El Roblar welcomed its first guests in June after a three-year restoration project.
The property is Ojai’s longest-standing hotel, operating for 105 years. Its new owners have returned it to its original California glory.
Reviving a California Landmark’s Original Spirit
The hotel was previously known as The Oaks at Ojai. It operated as a private health spa for decades, largely closed to the public.
New owners have restored its original name, Hotel El Roblar. They meticulously researched its history using archives from the Ojai Valley Museum and others. The goal was to recapture the property’s original early 20th-century character.
The restoration included the white stucco archway and the lobby’s fireplace. Custom Pendleton blankets on each bed feature the hotel’s name and founding year.
A New Hub for Ojai’s Community and Visitors
The hotel now features 31 rooms and 11 bungalows. Amenities include a swimming pool and lush landscaping.
It also boasts two new dining venues. La Cocina serves as a daytime cafe. The Condor Bar is a Mexican restaurant already attracting a stylish crowd.
The project faced some local permitting challenges, delaying its opening. It ultimately took three years to secure full approval from the city. The hotel is now a central social spot for both tourists and locals.
The careful restoration of Hotel El Roblar successfully revives a key piece of Ojai’s history. This historic hotel reopening establishes a new premier destination in the heart of the valley.
