Honorâs Robot Phone was previewed this week during Mobile World Congress 2026, showing a concept smartphone built around a small robotic arm and a gimbal-based 200-megapixel camera. The device is designed to combine artificial intelligence with physical motion, allowing the phone to move, track subjects, and stabilize video automatically.
The company described the device as a ânew species of smartphone,â suggesting that future phones could interact with users through movement as well as software. Honor indicated the concept is expected to reach the market in late 2026 if development continues as planned.
A smartphone designed around a robotic camera system
The Honor Robot Phone introduces a compact robotic arm integrated into the back of the device. At the end of the arm sits a 200-megapixel camera mounted on a motorized gimbal system designed to stabilize footage and create smooth cinematic movements.
The camera can pan, tilt, and adjust angles while recording. This allows the phone to maintain level video even when the user moves. The system also enables automatic tracking during video calls, following a person as they walk across a room.
Honor refers to the mechanism as a four-degree-of-freedom system. Three of those movements come from the traditional gimbal axes, while the robotic arm provides additional positioning control. Together, the components allow the camera to rotate and reposition in ways that are normally only possible with professional filming equipment.
When not in use, the arm folds into a raised compartment on the back of the phone. A sliding protective cover with a transparent window allows the camera to continue taking photos even while the arm remains retracted.
The company says its experience designing foldable smartphones helped make the robotic mechanism possible. Engineers developed a compact motor system capable of fitting inside a standard smartphone body while still supporting the mechanical movement required for the arm.
Embodied AI interaction through movement and awareness
Honor frames the Robot Phone as part of a broader approach it calls Augmented Human Intelligence. The concept focuses on AI systems that interact through both software and physical movement rather than relying only on screens or voice commands.
Demonstrations shown during the Mobile World Congress presentation illustrated how the phoneâs camera module could respond to its environment. The robotic arm appeared to turn toward sounds, track motion in the room, and react to user activity.
In some scenarios the device moved its camera as if expressing reactions. The module nodded, shook, or looked around while a user tried on outfits or interacted with friends. The company suggests this type of motion could make AI assistants feel more responsive and expressive.
The same visual awareness could support everyday tasks. For example, the camera could automatically follow a subject during livestreams, maintain framing during video calls, or capture rotating shots while filming events.
Honor also showed a humanoid robot during its keynote presentation, highlighting a broader interest in robotics. However, the Robot Phone remains the only concept device currently being considered for commercial release.
The Honor Robot Phone remains a prototype, but its robotic camera system points toward a new direction in smartphone design. If the device launches as planned in late 2026, it could introduce a new category where AI software and mechanical movement work together inside a standard smartphone.
FYI (keeping you in the loop)-
What is the Honor Robot Phone?
The Honor Robot Phone is a concept smartphone featuring a robotic arm with a 200-megapixel gimbal camera. The system allows the phone to move, stabilize video, and track subjects automatically using AI.
When will the Honor Robot Phone launch?
Honor indicated the device could launch in late 2026 if development progresses successfully. The current version shown at Mobile World Congress is still a concept.
