ZOOMBANGLA DESK: Police on Monday detained nine leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including its secretary general Mia Golam Parwar.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s Deputy Commissioner of Gulshan Division Md. Asaduzzaman Ripon told that nine Jamaat leaders and activists were detained from a building in the city’s Bashundhara residential area this evening.
The detaimed Jamaat leaders and activists were involved in anti-state activities, the DC said.
Jamaat, however, in a statement said that the police arrested 10 Jamaat leaders including its secretary general and six other central leaders.
The statement said that the arrested leaders also include Jamaat central executive committee member Abdur Rab, principal Ijjat Ullah and Mobarak Hossain, and Islami Chhatra Shibir former president Yasin Arafat.
It said that the police arrested them while they were holding a meeting chaired by Golam Parwar.
Jamaat protested at the arrest and demanded their immediate release.
