ZOOMBANGLA DESK: Japan has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to Bangladesh helping its frontline doctors, nurses and health workers combating against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, BSS reports.
Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki and Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Hirata Hitoshi handed over the PPEs to health and family welfare secretary Md Asadul Islam in the capital today, a Japanese embassy press release said here.
Of the PPE, including masks, gowns and goggles, will be distributed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Kurmitola General Hospital and Kuwait Marytree Hospital through the project of “Capacity Building for Nursing Services”.
Besides, 2000 sets of PPE will be distributed to health workers engaged in the project of “Strengthening Health Systems through Organizing Communities (SHASTO)” in Narsingdi, Cox’s Bazaar and Dhaka city north.
This support is a part of technical cooperation of Japan government to implement capacity building for COVID-19 countermeasures.
The Japan government has so far provided around 10 million US dollar as the emergency support to prevent COVID-19 infection in Bangladesh through international organizations like UNICEF, IOM, UNHCR and IFRC.
Moreover, Japan government and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) are considering further support in Bangladesh and will continue to take a leading and active approach to this global crisis, said the release.
