INTERNATIONAL DESK: A jirga involving veteran Pakhtun leaders has urged the Pakistan government to review its foreign policy amid a volatile situation in Afghanistan.
Arranged by Mazdoor Kissan Party (MKP), the jirga in Charsadda district was attended by several leaders, including Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao.
MKP head Afzal Shah Khamosh, Awami National Party’s Mian Iftikhar Hussain and Aimal Wali Khan, Abdul Jalil Jan of the Jamait Ulema-i-Islam, lawmaker Mohsin Dawar and others were also in attendance.
Speakers shone a light on the changing situation in Afghanistan, the new wave of terrorism in the country, rights of Pakhtuns and other topics.
The jirga later issued a 21-point declaration, condemned interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs by neighbouring countries.
Khamosh told journalists the jirga urged the government to revisit its foreign policy in the wake of the evolving situation in Afghanistan.
He added the jirga held the US and its allies responsible for the worsening situation in the neighbouring country. (Pajhwok Afghan News)
