Special correspondent : A severe controversy and criticism have erupted centering on the annual class party at Jan E Alam Sarkar High School in the Nikunja area of Dhaka. Nearby residents allege that the class party was celebrated in the school premises with loud political slogans and songs, accompanied by uninhibited dancing in the presence of teachers, which has caused intense anger and discomfort in the locality. The school is MPO-listed (Monthly Pay Order).

According to eyewitnesses and neighboring residents, the school’s annual class party began around 12 PM on Tuesday, with students from all classes participating. However, the complaints began around 3 PM, when the atmosphere of the event completely changed.
It is reported that the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ was suddenly played at a deafening volume, even in the presence of teachers. Furthermore, the alleged songs created for the national election—’Joy Bangla Jitbe Ebar Nouka’ (Joy Bangla, Nouka will win this time) and ‘Sheikh Hasina Ashbe Bangladesh Hasbe’ (Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile)—were formally played. Students engaged in wild dancing to the rhythm of the music. Residents of nearby flats and houses expressed extreme discomfort and anger due to the excessive volume of the songs.
The school authorities’ role has been questioned regarding the use of a political party’s slogan and songs, an activity prohibited in educational institutions. A storm of criticism has arisen in the area over how slogans and songs in favour of a specific political party were played openly in the presence of teachers. Education experts emphasize that educational institutions should ideally remain above partisan politics.
Multiple residents of the area complained that such activities disrupt the healthy and educational environment of the school campus and can politically influence young, impressionable students.
Although the class party was scheduled to continue until 5 PM, the school authorities were compelled to abruptly announce the conclusion of the event due to the intense anger and dissatisfaction of the locals. Allegedly, the authorities ended the program before the scheduled time, at around 3:30 PM, and left the school premises.
There has been a widespread reaction to this incident on social media as well. The video of the wild dancing accompanied by the controversial ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan has been shared by many, who are strongly condemning the actions of the school authorities. The entire incident has now become the ‘talk of the town’ in the area.
