Jessie JandKate Middleton are royally connected.The “Price Tag” singer detailed her decision to break royal protocol by hugging the Princess of Wales following the Royal Variety Performance at Royal Albert Hall last month, revealing that she opted to embrace Kate despite being “briefed not to.”“I just saw a mom that has also gone through cancer publicly, and I just wanted to give her a hug,” Jessie said on This Morning Dec. 3. “It was as simple as that. I didn’t see her as the Princess of Wales, I mean obviously I did, and I was respectful.”The “Bang Bang” singer, who shared that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer in June, clarified that she asked Kate for permission before going in for a hug.
As she explained, “I said to her, ‘Can I give you a hug?’ and she received it.”
“I just said, ‘It’s inspiring.’” Jessie recalled telling Kate, who announced at the beginning of 2025 that she was in remission following her own cancer battle. “I know the days that she has maybe gone through, and I just wanted to give her a hug—mom to mom, human to human.”The Grammy nominee—who shares son Sky, 2, with boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman—had previously given a little insight into their brief chat at the event.She said, according toviaThe Independentback in November, “We acknowledged that it’s something that is not easy to go through, especially in the public eye.”

But you never quite know the knock-on effects it can have.”
