Lava has introduced a new addition to its budget smartphone lineup in India, unveiling the Bold 2 5G as part of its effort to compete in the crowded sub-Rs 15,000 segment. The device arrives at a time when several brands are pushing premium-style features into lower price brackets, particularly high-refresh AMOLED displays and faster memory standards.
The new phone quietly builds on the approach Lava adopted with last yearâs Bold 5G. Instead of chasing headline specifications, the company appears focused on delivering a balanced everyday device with a clean software experience and dependable hardware.
At the centre of the Bold 2 5G is a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate. Panels with this combination of resolution and refresh speed were once limited to mid-range devices costing significantly more. Over the past two years, however, the feature has steadily moved down into the budget category as manufacturers compete for attention in the entry-level 5G market.
Inside the device, Lava has opted for MediaTekâs Dimensity 7060 processor. The chip is paired with 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage, a pairing that stands out in a segment where many phones still rely on older memory technologies.
The company says the Bold 2 5G is designed to handle everyday workloads comfortably, from routine app usage to light gaming and social media activity. Power comes from a 5,000mAh battery, supported by 33W fast charging, a configuration that has become something of a standard benchmark for modern mid-range phones.
Lava has also paid attention to the physical design. The phone measures 7.55mm thick and carries an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance, an increasingly common feature in newer devices aimed at durability without adding cost.
On the camera front, the Bold 2 5G takes a relatively simple approach. The rear setup is centred on a 50-megapixel Sony IMX752 main sensor, while the front camera uses an 8-megapixel unit for selfies and video calls.
Rather than filling the back panel with multiple secondary sensors, Lava appears to be focusing on the primary camera as the main imaging tool. That strategy has become more common in this price category as brands move away from low-impact auxiliary lenses.
The software experience is another area where Lava continues to differentiate itself. The Bold 2 5G ships with Android 15 out of the box and, according to the company, avoids advertisements, pre-installed bloatware and promotional notifications.
The company is also continuing its free home service program, which allows users to request repairs without visiting a service centre. Lava has been emphasising this feature as part of its after-sales support strategy in recent product launches.
The Bold 2 5G is priced at Rs 12,999 for the 6GB and 128GB variant under a launch offer. Sales are scheduled to begin on March 19 through Amazon, with two colour options available: Feather White and Midnight Black.
The release follows the Lava Bold 5G introduced in April 2025. That earlier device gained attention for offering a 120Hz curved AMOLED display in a price range that still relied heavily on LCD panels at the time.
In the current market, the Bold 2 5G enters a field dominated by devices from POCO, Realme and Redmi, many of which offer similar battery capacities and display specifications.
Lava appears to be betting that its uncluttered Android experience and service support will help the device stand out. For buyers looking for a straightforward smartphone without heavy software customisation, that approach may prove just as important as raw specifications.
