Applications are now open for the 2026 LIFT Digital Cinema Residency. The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is seeking emerging artists aged 18 to 30. The full-time program runs from January 12 to March 31, 2026, in Toronto.

LIFT Digital Cinema Residency

This initiative provides a unique opportunity for a filmmaker to create a new digital cinema work. The selected artist will receive dedicated funding and access to professional equipment and mentorship.

Substantial Funding and Professional Resources Offered

The residency includes an $8,000 CAD funding package. This is payable as an hourly wage for the 11-week program. Mandatory employment deductions for CPP and EI will apply.

LIFT will also provide up to $3,000 CAD worth of in-kind equipment and facility access. The artist will be given a dedicated studio space at the LIFT facility. This support structure is designed to remove financial and technical barriers for new creators.

Strict Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or refugees aged 18 to 30. They must live within commuting distance of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Work permit holders are not eligible for this program.

Candidates must also self-identify as underemployed and have completed post-secondary studies. According to LIFT, this targets support to those who need it most. The program aims to bridge the gap between education and a sustainable creative career.

The LIFT Digital Cinema Residency represents a critical investment in the next generation of Canadian filmmakers. This program offers both the financial means and the professional guidance necessary for artistic development. Emerging creators have until December 3, 2025, to apply for this transformative opportunity.
