ZOOMBANGLA DESK: Bangladesh Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said the Maitri Diwas 2021 is the manifestation of the continuity of deep relationship between India and Bangladesh.

She said the government of Bangladesh and its people always remember with respect the cooperation and contribution of India to the great war of liberation under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Speaker was speaking as the chief guest at a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital marking the 50 years of India-Bangladesh friendship, an official release said.

She said India-Bangladesh relations have reached a new height with the concerted efforts of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Speaker reaffirmed that India and Bangladesh would work together as in the past to address global challenges, including poverty and inequality, and enhance regional cooperation.

The reception and musical event were hosted by Indian High Commission in Dhaka at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital where senior representatives from the government of Bangladesh including Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, the Chief of the Army Staff, Secretaries to the Government, senior officials, IGP of Police, leaders of business and industry, media, academia and civil society were present.

Bangladeshi nationals selected for India’s highest civilian honours, in the years 2020 and 2021, were specially invited and felicitated in presence of the august gathering, said a press release of Indian High Commission in Dhaka. (BSS)
