ZOOMBANGLA DESK: President of India Droupadi Murmu has said that connectivity between Bangladesh and India has increased with the construction of ‘Maitri Setu’ over the river Feni.
At the same time, Murmu said, it has become convenient for the entrepreneurs of Tripura to use Chittagong and Ashuganj ports; according to a press release issued by President’s Secretariat here last evening.
Referring to relations between the people of Bangladesh and Tripura, she said, “It can be said that from the very beginning, Tripura has played a major role in deepening India’s friendship with Bangladesh.”
The Indian President made the remarks while addressing a civic reception in Agartala, the capital of Indian state of Tripura, on Wednesday.
The President was happy to note that Tripura is making steady progress as an educational hub and said that many institutions of higher and professional education are established in the state, where students from not only the North Eastern Region but also from other parts of India and abroad come for education.
She expressed happiness that Tripura has achieved the target of 100 percent enrollment at the elementary education level.
Earlier, the President visited Albert Ekka War Memorial in Agartala and paid homage to the brave soldiers who made their supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
During her visit to the Indian North-Eastern state, the Indian President inaugurated a number of development projects including Tripura State Judicial Academy and laid the foundation stone for Tripura National Law University at Narsingarh, in Agartala.
In another function, the President virtually inaugurated an MLA Hostel at Capital Complex, Agartala and laid foundation stones for Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Museum & Cultural Centre; IIIT-Agartala and various projects of government of Tripura related to roads, schools and hostels for students from Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, Agartala.
Addressing the gathering at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, the President said that projects inaugurated today will not only strengthen the connectivity, education, judiciary and legislature in Tripura, but also boost up the rich culture of the state.
The President said that a holistic education system is essential for the development of the nation and progress of our youth. Along with higher education, we should give more emphasis on primary education, she added. (BSS)
