A series of significant road improvement projects are launching across Harford County. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is overseeing the work. It begins on October 12, 2025, impacting US 40, MD 924, and MD 136.

The coordinated effort aims to enhance road safety and driving conditions for thousands of motorists. All three projects are scheduled for completion by late November, pending favorable weather.
Project Scope and Schedule Details
The most extensive project is the $950,000 resurfacing of US 40 (Pulaski Highway). Work will cover both eastbound and westbound lanes from MD 152 to MD 24. According to MDOT SHA, drivers should prepare for lane closures throughout the fall.
Overnight single-lane closures are scheduled from Sunday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Daytime single-lane closures will also occur on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium is the contractor for this major resurfacing.
Bel Air and Pylesville See Simultaneous Improvements
Concurrently, a $384,000 pavement patching project is set for MD 924 in Bel Air. This work will address sections of roadway from Broadway to MD 24/US 1 Business. It is scheduled to start on or after October 15.
Meanwhile, a smaller $66,000 roadside grading project will occur on MD 136 near Pylesville. This work in the 1100 block of Harkins Road will cause weekday daytime lane closures. Officials urge drivers to stay alert and follow all posted signage in these active work zones.
