INTERNATIONAL DESK: It has come to light that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has directed Chinese students studying in the United States to attend the visit of President Xi Jinping during his trip to the US. The directive was reportedly issued by the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles.
The CCP has organized Chinese students to travel to San Francisco to welcome President Xi Jinping, characterizing this act as a “great responsibility and a glorious mission.” An internal notice was sent to all committee members of the USC Chinese Student and Scholar Association.
“We have just received a notification from the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles: next week, from the 13th to the 17th, Xi Jinping will visit the United States. Students from The Chinese Student and Scholar Association, a non-profit organization representing the interests of Chinese students and scholars at USC (USC CSSA), are invited to go to San Francisco to welcome him and participate in the meeting activities.
Since the itinerary cannot be made public, the information we have at the moment is as follows:
Students who sign up will take a bus together to SF. The departure date has not been determined yet, but it will be between the 13th and 17th; those who wish to go should preferably be available that week or request leave in advance. It is anticipated that we will stay in SF for 3-4 days. For everyone’s safety, individual travel or activities are not allowed. All travel and accommodation costs will be covered.
If you wish to participate, please contact me before 4:00 this afternoon! Once registered, you cannot withdraw.
This matter is to be discussed within our executive committee group only; please do not promote or spread the word.
This event is of great importance and a glorious mission; thank you all for your strong support! All.”
Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that some Chinese dissidents are also planning to be present during President Xi Jinping’s visit.
President Xi Jinping is expected to meet with various U.S. business executives during his visit to San Francisco for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. His visit is seen as a sign of improving relations between the U.S. and China, following diplomatic tariff and trade disputes.
The APEC summit is scheduled from November 11 to 17, with a CEO summit occurring from the 14th to the 16th. While it is unclear with whom President Xi will meet, “hundreds of people” are expected to attend a dinner event. He has previously met with several U.S. tech executives, including Tim Cook of Apple, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta Platforms, and Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft.
The Biden Administration recently updated export control rules to restrict China’s development of artificial intelligence, including semiconductor technology. China’s Commerce Minister expressed openness to U.S. semiconductor company Micron Technology expanding its presence in China after a lengthy investigation. (EPARDAFAS)
