Season 5 of Marvel Rivals is officially set to launch on November 14, 2025, and it’s shaping up to be one of the game’s biggest updates yet. The early patch notes confirm the arrival of two iconic X-Men — Gambit and Rogue — alongside sweeping buffs, nerfs, new Team-Ups, and long-awaited quality-of-life improvements.
Developed by NetEase Games in collaboration with Marvel Games, this update marks the first anniversary of Marvel Rivals, bringing fan-favorite heroes, new modes, and cross-progression support to the fast-growing multiplayer experience.
New Heroes: Gambit and Rogue Lead the Charge
The card-throwing mutant Gambit headlines Season 5 as the newest Strategist Hero. Known for charging inanimate objects with kinetic energy, Gambit’s explosive powers in Rivals will combine offense and healing. His tactical gameplay gives the team a much-needed new Strategist — the first since Ultron’s release months ago.
Rogue, another beloved member of the X-Men, joins the fray in December as part of the Season 5.5 update. Her ability to absorb and mimic powers from other heroes is expected to introduce a completely new dynamic. Based on the trailer and in-game hints, Rogue is likely classified as a Vanguard, though her final role will be revealed closer to launch.
The duo’s inclusion marks the first time the iconic couple appears together in Marvel Rivals, reflecting the franchise’s long-standing X-Men legacy.
All Buffs, Nerfs, and Team-Up Changes in Season 5
The patch focuses on balance improvements across the roster. Multiple Vanguards are receiving utility buffs to improve team synergy. The following heroes are confirmed for adjustments:
- Buffed: The Thing, Hulk, Captain America, Peni Parker, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Loki, and Cloak & Dagger.
- Captain America’s ultimate will now accelerate teammates’ ultimate charge rate.
- Peni Parker’s webs can heal allies standing within them.
Meanwhile, Loki and Cloak & Dagger are getting performance boosts, enhancing their team-fight presence.
New Team-Ups include:
- Explosive Entanglement – Gambit + Magneto: charged kinetic greatsword attacks.
- Sword of Duality – Cloak & Dagger + Hawkeye: light/dark energy wave that heals allies and damages foes.
- Blade of Khonshu – Moon Knight + Blade: enhanced dash and multi-hit projectile combo.
Several Team-Ups are also being retired, including Lunar Force and Operation Microchip, while Magneto and Hawkeye are being removed from older pairings. Black Widow joins Phoenix and Wolverine in Primal Flame.
New Map, Mode, and Anniversary Rewards
A new Times Square social map will debut this season, hosting up to 100 players for casual hangouts and emotes. On November 27, players will receive 2,500 Units and an exclusive Legendary Business Jeff skin to celebrate the game’s first anniversary.
Season 5 also introduces a large-scale 18v18 Conquest Annihilation Mode, releasing later in the month. The update features new accessories like Rogue for Gambit, Bag-Man for Human Torch, and Alligator Loki for Loki, alongside long-requested cross-progression support.
Competitive and PvE Roadmap
The new Competitive Placement System replaces the old tier reset model. Players will now complete ten placement matches to determine their rank, rewarding consistent players with higher starting tiers. Team queue adjustments will also allow more flexible matchmaking for lower-ranked groups.
As for PvE content, developers confirmed that new maps, heroes, and thematic expansions are planned for 2026 following the success of Marvel Zombies. More details will be revealed next year.
Season 5 of Marvel Rivals goes live on November 14, 2025. With Gambit’s stylish card tricks, Rogue’s adaptive powers, and rebalanced gameplay, this could be the most exciting chapter yet for the Marvel-based brawler.
