Maryland is investing millions in outdoor fun. The state’s Board of Public Works approved nearly $4.2 million in new grants. This funding will boost recreational projects across Baltimore City and nine counties.

Maryland recreational grants

The money comes from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. It targets the development and renovation of local parks and facilities. This initiative aims to enhance community spaces for all residents.

Key Projects Funded by the Recreational Grants

The largest share, over $3.6 million, comes from Program Open Space. This fund supports 15 distinct local projects. According to the Board’s agenda, the scope is wide.

Baltimore City will see new pathways in Druid Hill Park. Anne Arundel County will renovate the Edgewater Recreation Center. This center will get indoor pickleball courts and a new playground.

Other notable projects include field lighting in St. Mary’s County. Howard County will build a new nature center amphitheater. Kent County plans a new dog park and upgraded baseball facilities.

Broader Impact of the Community Investment

This funding represents a deep commitment to public spaces. The Community Parks and Playgrounds program provided an extra $545,000. It will fund two more projects in Caroline and Dorchester counties.

These upgrades will directly improve quality of life. They provide safe, modern places for families to play and gather. The investment supports both physical health and community connection.

This significant funding for Maryland recreational grants underscores the state’s dedication to enhancing public amenities. The diverse projects will benefit residents for years to come, promoting active lifestyles and outdoor enjoyment across numerous communities.
