Matthew Stafford etched his name into NFL history on Sunday, breaking the league’s international record for touchdown passes in a single game. The Los Angeles Rams quarterback threw five touchdown passes during a dominant 38-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in London on October 19, 2025.

Stafford’s performance marked the first time any quarterback has thrown five touchdowns in an NFL International Series game. The 36-year-old veteran tied his career high in touchdown passes and set a new personal best since joining the Rams, helping Los Angeles improve to 5-2 on the season.

Stafford’s Historic Day in London

In front of more than 85,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, Stafford completed 21 of 33 passes for 182 yards and five touchdowns. While his yardage total was modest, his efficiency and precision in the red zone made the difference. According to the Associated Press, no quarterback in the history of the NFL’s international games — which began in 2007 — has thrown as many touchdown passes in a single contest.

“It’s always special to play on this stage,” Stafford told reporters after the win. “To do something no one else has done before, especially in front of an international crowd, makes it even more meaningful.”

Three of Stafford’s touchdowns went to veteran wide receiver Davante Adams, who stepped up as the team’s primary target with star receiver Puka Nacua sidelined due to an ankle injury. Adams finished the game with eight catches for 97 yards and three scores, showcasing the chemistry he and Stafford have quickly developed this season.

The Rams’ offensive line also played a key role in the record-setting performance, keeping Stafford upright and giving him ample time to operate. The Jaguars’ defense, which entered the game allowing just 18.9 points per contest, struggled to contain the Rams’ balanced attack.

Head coach Sean McVay praised his quarterback’s poise and leadership. “Matthew was outstanding today,” McVay said. “He’s been in big games his whole career, but the way he executed today was special. This was a team win, but he was the engine that made it all go.”

What This Means for the Rams and the NFC Race

The blowout win over Jacksonville not only secured a 5-2 record for the Rams but also sent a message to the rest of the NFC. Los Angeles entered the season as a playoff contender but not necessarily a Super Bowl favorite. Sunday’s performance, however, showed they are capable of competing with the league’s elite.

“We know what we’re capable of,” Stafford said. “We’ve got a long way to go, but days like today show what this team can do when everything clicks.”

The Rams will now enter their bye week with momentum before returning home to face the New Orleans Saints on November 2. With Stafford playing at an MVP-caliber level and the defense holding opponents to just 18.3 points per game, Los Angeles looks like a legitimate threat in the NFC playoff picture.

For Stafford, this latest milestone adds another chapter to an already impressive career. The former No. 1 overall pick and Super Bowl LVI champion has passed for over 55,000 yards and 350 touchdowns in his 16 NFL seasons. Sunday’s record reinforces his reputation as one of the league’s most prolific and clutch quarterbacks.

Matthew Stafford breaking the NFL international touchdown record underscores not just his personal brilliance but also the Rams’ potential to challenge for another Super Bowl. As the second half of the season approaches, Los Angeles looks ready to make a serious run.
